g. The maneuver commander may use airmobile or air assault operations to exploit enemy
weaknesses or situations in the battle, such as locating the enemy command post or supply points.
Smoke curtains may be used during airmobile or air assault operations to conceal helicopter landings
and takeoffs from enemy ground observation.
h. During support of offensive operations, it is imperative that the smoke units keep pace with
the maneuver elements. The M157 Smoke Generator System gives the smoke unit the capability. With
its ability to make smoke on the move, the M157 Smoke Generator System can react more quickly to
changes in the situation and wind and weather conditions, giving the maneuver commander an effective
tool for enhancing his combat capability.
