f. The basis of smoke support of obstacle-breaching operations is similar to that of an assault.
The smoke unit provides concealment on the obstacle and possible enemy overwatch positions during
the breaching operation. Once the obstacle is breached, smoke concealment at that location may be
lifted to permit quick penetration by friendly forces while smoke obscuration of enemy overwatch
positions is maintained. Figure 1-21 illustrates smoke support of an obstacle-breaching operation.
