3. M157 Smoke Generator System. The M157 Smoke Generator System contains two M54

Smoke Generators. The M54 Smoke Generator consists of the engine, the cover assembly, and the

frame assembly. Descriptions of these components follow.

(a) Engine. The engine is the heart of the smoke generator. The pulse-jet engine develops --

 Heat to vaporize fog oil.

 Thrust to force vaporized fog oil into the air.

 Suction to open the engine valve and draw successive fuel-air mixtures into the
