the proposed survey. The NBCE personnel decide the amount of detail required for the survey, whether
an aerial or ground survey is to be conducted, and whether the centralized or decentralized method of
control will be used. A part of the planning process is preparation of the radiological survey overlay. In
preparation of the overlay features, the route to be surveyed and critical points for immediate reporting
will be included. The route to be followed will be shown. If sufficient information has been received,
an NBC 5 (Nuclear) Report is prepared. Route selection will take into consideration such factors as the
location of the contaminated area, the element to occupy the area, cover, concealment, and terrain
characteristics. In the planning process, safety precautions and after-mission decontamination sites are
specified by the NBCE. After the plan is developed, it is submitted for approval and a briefing is
presented to the Division Chemical Officer.
