Step 3.
Set the power switch (2) to the ON position. The power indicator will light.
Step 4.
Hold the fuel switch (3) to the START position until the indicator lights. Release
the fuel switch and allow it to move to the RUN position.
Step 5.
Wait for the air indicator to light. Depress the purge button (4), hold it for 3
seconds, and then release it.
Step 6.
Rotate the fog oil flow control knob (5) fully clockwise.
CAUTION
Do not hold the engine or fog oil switch in the START position for more
than 30 seconds, or equipment will be damaged.
Step 7.
Simultaneously hold the engine switch (6) and the fog oil switch (7) to the
START position.
Step 8.
When both the engine and fog oil indicators light, simultaneously release the
engine switch (6) and the fog oil switch (7), and allow them to move to the RUN
position.
Step 9.
Adjust the fog oil flow control knob (5) for normal operating temperature and
maximum smoke output.
CAUTION
Do not attempt Steps 7 through 8 more than three times if the engine fails
to start on the first attempt.
NOTE: If the thermal switch stops the pulse-jet engine before the fog oil indicator lights, move the fuel,
engine, and fog oil switches to the OFF position, wait until the smoke temperature indicator reaches
650 F and repeat steps 4 through 8.
NOTE: If the fog oil indicator does not light after three attempts, move all switches to OFF and notify
organizational maintenance.
