1.
Refueling Procedures: Procedures for refueling the M157 Smoke Generator System with fuel
and fog oil follow.
a. Fuel. Follow these procedures to refuel with fuel.
Step 1.
Remove the hose attachment assembly from the fuel can by turning it
counterclockwise and lifting it so that all hoses are removed from the fuel can.
Step 2.
Either replace the fuel can with another full fuel can or refuel the can from
another can, using a flexible spout.
Step 3.
Resecure the hose attachment assembly to the fuel can by inserting the hoses in
the can and turning the assembly clockwise.
CAUTION
The fuel can is made of steel, and the threads on the hose attachment
assembly are made of brass. Use special care when removing and
reinstalling the hose attachment assembly to prevent stripping its threads.
b. Fog Oil. Follow these procedures to refuel the fog oil tank. (Refer to Figure 2-3 on page 2-
6.)
Step 1.
Remove the filler cap by turning it counterclockwise. Inspect the strainer to
ensure it is clean and serviceable.
Step 2.
Place the filler end of the refueling hose into the filler hole. The fog oil tank may
be refueled from either a 15-GPM hand pump or a tank and pump unit (TPU).
Step 3.
Fill the fog oil tank so as not to have any fog oil overflow. Monitor the sight
glasses to determine the fog oil level in the fog oil tank. If a sight glass is clear
and shows the color of the fog oil, the tank is filled at least to that sight glass. If a
sight glass has a bubble in it, the fog oil level in the tank has not yet reached that
sight glass.
Step 4.
Remove the refueling hose from the filler hole and resecure the filler cap by
turning it clockwise.
