PART B -- START THE M157 SMOKE GENERATOR SYSTEM
AND PERFORM DURING-OPERATION CHECKS
Having completed refueling and before-operation checks, the smoke generator operator should start the
M157 Smoke Generator System and perform during-operation checks.
1.
Starting Procedures. Follow these procedures for starting the M157 Smoke Generator System
(Figure 3-3).
Step 1.
Turn on the vehicle engine.
Step 2.
Set circuit breaker CB1 (1) to the ON position.
Step 3.
Set the power switch (2) to the ON position. The power indicator will light.
CAUTION
Do not hold the fuel, engine, or fog oil switches in the START position for
more than 30 seconds or equipment will be damaged.
Step 4.
Hold the fuel switch (3) to the START position until the indicator lights (but no
longer than 30 seconds). Release the fuel switch and allow it to move to the RUN
position.
Step 5.
Wait for the air indicator to light. Depress the purge button (4), hold it for three
seconds, and then release it.
Step 6.
Hold the engine switch (5) to the START position until the indicator lights (but no
longer than 30 seconds). Release the engine switch and allow it to move to the
RUN position.
CAUTION
Adjust the fog oil flow control knob within 30 seconds after the fog oil
indicator lights to prevent overheating the pulse-jet engine.
Step 7.
Hold the fog oil switch (6) to the START position until the indicator lights (but no
longer than 30 seconds). Release the fog oil switch and allow it to move to the
RUN position.
