OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF THE M3A4 SMOKE GENERATOR

GENERAL
The Operation and Maintenance of the M3A4 Smoke Generator subcourse is designed to teach the
student critical characteristics of smoke operations. The student will learn the purpose, use, capabilities,
and limitations of smoke generators. The student will also learn to fuel the M3A4 smoke generator; to
start, operate, and stop the generator; and to perform before-, during-, and after-operation checks and
services and operator-level maintenance on the generator. This subcourse is presented in three lessons,
each lesson corresponding to a terminal learning objective.
LESSON 1: Describe the M3A4 Smoke Generator and the Purposes and Uses of Smoke Generators
TASK: Describe the M3A4 smoke generator, its capabilities, limitations, purposes, and uses.
CONDITIONS: Given information about and illustrations of the purposes, uses, capabilities, and
limitations of the M3A4 smoke generator.
STANDARDS: Demonstrate knowledge by responding to the multiple-choice test covering the
purposes, uses, capabilities, and limitations of the M3A4 smoke generator.
(This objective does not support any soldier's manual tasks, but it is needed to provide a basis for the
subcourse.)
LESSON 2: Perform Operator Maintenance on the M3A4 Smoke Generator
TASK: Perform operator maintenance on the M3A4 smoke generator.
CONDITIONS: Given information about and illustrations of the performance of operator-level
maintenance on the M3A4 smoke generator.
STANDARDS: Demonstrate knowledge by responding to the multiple-choice test covering operator-
level maintenance on the M3A4 smoke generator.
