pressure in the air accumulator is registered on the air pressure gage. The air release button is pressed to
release the initial blast of air needed to start the flow of fuel and air mixture to the combustion chamber.

The frame assembly (Figure 7) consists of a
toolbox, a welded tubular steel frame, and four
sliding handles used for carrying the smoke
generator. The handles are held in place by stop
pins attached to the frame with chains. When not
in use, the handles are placed in the retracted
position.
The purpose of the M3A4 smoke generator is
to make smoke. The quality of smoke generated is
extremely important. Smoke quality is determined
after the generator has been in operation
approximately three minutes. This three-minute
time frame gives the generator sufficient time to
warm up and stabilize smoke production. After

three minutes of operation, you must determine the
quality of smoke you are producing. Figure 8
shows the characteristics of good smoke.
