IDENTIFY STARTING PROCEDURES AND PERFORM DURING-OPERATION CHECKS
ON THE M3A4 SMOKE GENERATOR
Having completed fueling and servicing the M3A4 smoke generator, the next step is to start the
generator and perform during-operation checks. Procedures for starting the generator are shown in
Figure 20, which is an extract from TM 3-1040-276-10.
NOTE: The air motor for the fog oil pump has an access opening on both ends under the access
cover. The openings permit the operator to assist in the movement of the piston by
pushing on the rockerarms with a screwdriver or a wooden rod. This procedure should be
used when the fog-oil pump fails to operate during the starting procedure after the drain
cock on the air motor has been closed.
