The M4 Nuclear Yield Calculator, a component of the
M28 Nuclear Calculator Set, should not be used
because it gives an inaccurate yield.
The calculator permits estimation of a nuclear yield when the
illumination time is known. Yield can also be estimated when flash-to-
bang time (or distance to ground zero) and any one of the following cloud
parameters are known.
Nuclear burst angular cloud width at H + 5 minutes
Stabilized cloud-bottom angle at H + 10 minutes
Stabilized cloud-top angle at H + 10 minutes.
Instructions for use of the calculator are printed on the calculator.
Included as a component of the M28A1 Calculator Set is a plastic
separator card with practice problems and solutions using the M4A1
Calculator on one side (Figure 2-5).
