LESSON 6
COMPUTE NUCLEAR DATA UNDER SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Critical Task: 031-506-2016
OVERVIEW
LESSON DESCRIPTION: In this lesson you will learn to compute nuclear fallout data under special
conditions.
TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
ACTION:
Compute nuclear data under special conditions.
CONDITION:
Given information about the procedures for computing nuclear data for areas
contaminated more than 24 hours or with nonstandard decay radiation, and for
induced radiation.
STANDARD:
Demonstrate competency of the task skills and knowledge by responding to the
multiple-choice test covering the procedures for computing nuclear data under special
conditions.
REFERENCES: FM 3-3, FM 3-3-1 and STP 3-54B34-SM-TG.
INTRODUCTION
Up to this point the computations you have learned in this subcourse have been based on standard decay
radiation. It must be assumed, however, that on the nuclear battlefield there will be times when the
radiation will decay at a nonstandard rate, some areas will be contaminated with old radiation, and there
will be areas of overlapping radiation.
PART A: COMPUTE NUCLEAR FALLOUT DATA UNDER SPECIAL CONDITIONS
To compute nuclear data under these special conditions, you must be able to perform calculations for:
■
Fallout radiation more than 24 hours old.
■
Nonstandard decay rates.
