the spread and rise of the streamers are more rapid than under inversion. For smoke blankets, neutral conditions
are advantageous because the smoke rises high enough to obscure landmarks, while visibility at ground level is
comparatively unimpaired. For smoke operations, the mean height of smoke clouds extends to a greater height
than that of chemical agent clouds. The temperature gradient from 1 to 16 meters is more representative than that
from 0.5 meters to 4 meters.
The chart shown at Figure 9 will further assist the smoke planner. Use this chart to determine the temperature
gradient, based on the time of day and observed weather conditions.
