PREPARE SMOKE PLATOON FOR TACTICAL MOVEMENT
On receipt of an order assigning a smoke mission, the smoke unit commander immediately proceeds to the
smoke unit to make the necessary preparations for deployment of a smoke generator company. This movement is
normally controlled by the platoon leader.
The fuel supply platoon leader or senior smoke platoon leader will direct the platoon sergeants based on the
warning order issued by the unit commander. The information for dissemination will include the estimated time
of departure and the approximate location to which the platoons will be moving.
The estimated time of departure gives the smoke platoon sergeant a time limit within which the platoon must
be ready to move. All loading tasks, supply dispersals, and equipment checks must be performed within this time
limit, at the assembly area.
The approximate location gives the platoon sergeant the area within which the platoon will set up. The
platoon sergeant will brief the vehicle drivers accordingly. This briefing will include the march order (sequence
in which the vehicles will proceed), vehicle spacing (normally determined by unit SOP), a strip map (the travel
route), the speed limit the drivers will not exceed, and any known details of the area into which the platoon will
move.
