IDENTIFY THE FUNDAMENTALS OF RADIATION EXPOSURE
REPORTING AND CONTROL
Critical Task: 031-506-3041
OVERVIEW
LESSON DESCRIPTION:
In this lesson, you will learn the purpose of radiation exposure control and the terms used. To understand
radiation exposure control, you must be able to identify the purpose of radiological exposure control and
the terms used in reporting and control.
TERMINAL LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
ACTION:
You will identify the fundamentals of radiation exposure reporting and control.
CONDITION:
You will be given information about and illustrations for the purpose of radiation
exposure control, the impact it will have on battlefield operations, and the definitions
of terms used in radiation exposure control.
STANDARD:
You will demonstrate competency of the task skills and knowledge by responding to

INTRODUCTION
Military operations in nuclear warfare will be complicated by the necessity to control the exposure of
personnel to nuclear radiation. The primary reasons for this control are to maintain the combat
effectiveness of personnel and ensure effective combat operations. The commander should be provided
sufficient guidance so that these controls will prevent the unwitting overexposure of personnel and
interfere as little as possible with mission accomplishment.

control; therefore, any control that is established should be flexible. The procedures outlined in this
lesson will help you provide guidance to the commander on the nuclear battlefield. Your guidance will
aid the commander in employing the unit in a way that minimizes exposure of personnel to nuclear
